Bruno thrived in the system, grabbing the New York Senate’s Republican majority’s leadership post in a 1994 overthrow. He doggedly courted high-tech projects for New York, often in his district, but in many ways, Bruno was an old-time pol: He was a guy who used phrases like “a man’s man,” occasionally cursed in news conferences, paused to chat with young female reporters and interns, and seethed when he felt a handshake deal was broken.
His name is carried on a sprawling minor league ballpark and a bust of him is prominently displayed at the revamped Albany International Airport.
Bruno resigned last summer only months after Democratic Gov. Eliot Spitzer — the political nemesis Bruno once dismissed as “fancy, dance-y, prance-y” — fell from power in a prostitution scandal. The three-year federal investigation of Bruno led to charges a few months after that.
In Rhode Island, the law makers adopted indoor prostitution ban. Under the new legislation, the indoor prostitution is a misdemeanor, and the prostitutes will face the criminal prosecution for performing sexual services in brothels, strip clubs, or outside of their homes . In Georgia, an Atlanta man pled a guilty in connection with sex trafficking. He was charged with the conspiracy of illegally transporting young women from Mexico. In San Francisco, the authorities celebrated implementing the new legislation clamping down on the pimps trafficking children yesterday.

RICHMOND, Calif. (AP) A sixth suspect has been arrested in the alleged gang rape of a California girl outside her high school dance. Richmond police say the 18-year-old played a “significant role” in last weekend’s attack. He’s being held on $1.3 million bail.
DENVER (AP) A fall storm that buried some western states with deep snow is slowly pushing into Nebraska and Kansas. Dozens of flights have been canceled and long stretches of roadway were shut down amid blizzard conditions. A winter storm warning is in effect until Friday morning for portions of western and north-central Nebraska.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) Rhode Island’s governor is expected to sign legislation that would close a loophole allowing prostitutes to ply their trade indoors. The bill, which would make prostitution a misdemeanor offense, was approved by lawmakers Thursday. Rhode Island is the only place, besides parts of Nevada, that allow indoor prostitution.

A parolee was among three people arrested on suspicion of shoplifting from Safeway on Sunday and then fleeing from Alameda Towne Centre in a waiting pickup.
The two men and the woman each face a burglary charge because they entered the building with the aim of carrying out a theft, police said.
The 33-year-old parolee, who was a passenger in the black 1998 Dodge Ram, lives in San Leandro.
The San Francisco man, 62, who was driving the pickup was wanted on an outstanding warrant for possessing drug paraphernalia, plus he was driving with a suspended license and had placed a false registration sticker on the truck’s license plate.
The woman, 40, who lives in Oakland, was wanted on a warrant that accuses her of prostitution.
Prompted by City Attorney Dennis Herrera, notorious Tenderloin strip club Pink Diamonds was forced to shut its doors yesterday. According to SFGate, a judge ordered the, eh, burlesque club to officially close for a year and “directed its operator, Damone H. Smith, to pay at least $688,500 in fines after he violated a court agreement to bring the club into compliance with local and state laws.” (The club actually ceased operations in early October, but this final nail in the strip pole, a request Herrera made to a SF Superior Court judge on on Sept. 30, made the closure official.)
Pink Diamonds, if you recall, played host to a June 27, 2009 murder in addition to other lawlessness that required more than 230 service calls by the San Francisco Police Department this year alone.

While the production centers on the politics within the Shaker community, it also emphasizes the dangers facing young women outside of the community.
The strongest performances come from these younger members: Sister Polly (Jessica Price) is a former prostitute who has sought refuge in the community. Sister Fanny joined the community for the promise of a daily meal and to avoid her abusive family. For Sister Izzy (Jillian Jetton), who was dropped off by her father as a young child, the community is the only home she has ever known. Jetton’s Izzy is delightfully innocent, and her eyes well up with a very real sort of wonder when describing her angelic vision. Some of the performances are more sporadic and effusive, but this might be expected from a play involving convulsive religious experiences.
… Cal-OSHA is charged with, among other things, investigating ’causes of any employment accident that … results in a serious injury or illness, or a serious exposure, unless it determines that an investigation is unnecessary.’ Smith said in her ruling. “Plaintiff is concededly not an employee of AIM, and Cal-OSHA is admittedly not investigating the safety of AIM’s employees, but of adult film industry employers.”
Smith further said that Cal-OSHA is limited to investigating employers and their agents.
“There is no apparent need for identifying information of Patient Zero, or of patient-identifying information generally, for the purposes of investigation of AIM as an employer,” she said.
Diane Duke, executive director of the Free Speech Coalition, said that Smith confirmed what the organization has long said: “Cal-OSHA is over-reaching its jurisdiction on what looks like a witch hunt focused on the adult entertainment industry.”
JAY: There’s been a lot of talk about organizing the poor and community organizing. Of course, Fox and some of the Republicans have tried to make community organizing a bad word as they talk about Obama’s past. But there’s been a specific controversy over this organization called ACORN, which does a lot of community organizing, certainly one of the best-known at the very least. What do you make of the ACORN controversy? And for people that are outside the United States that may not have followed this, if I understand it correctly, ACORN is a big organization that has gotten quite a bit of money in federal government grants and other kinds of donations. They do voter registration, community organizing. They’ve been accused of some forms of corruption in terms of voter registration issues. They’ve been accused recently in a video about giving advice to some people that they were getting set up by the people videoing. They wound up giving, supposedly, advice to someone posing as a prostitute and a pimp how to avoid paying taxes. So what do you make of the ACORN controversy?
MUSIC “A mack is different from a pimp,” Mac Mall tells me. “A pimp would starve without a woman. But a mack is a master of creativity. He can manipulate any situation.”
As a “third-generation mack” from Vallejo’s notorious Crestside hood, Mac Mall knows whereof he speaks. “Mack” is an age-old term in the Bay, lending itself to the region’s premier blaxploitation film, The Mack (1973). Yet, Mall reveals, “There ain’t gonna be anymore rappers named ‘Mac’ out of the Crest” because the title has accrued too much tragedy. The very first rapper in both the Crest and Vallejo itself was the Mac, Michael Robinson, who was murdered in a case of mistaken identity in 1990. But the immediate catalyst for the name’s retirement was the murder of André Hicks, a.k.a. Mac Dre, who was gunned down Nov. 1, 2004 in Kansas City.

According to Mistah F.A.B., whose breakthrough disc Son of a Pimp (2005) came out on Thizz, Snoop himself is fan.
