* In Philadelphia, the Eagles continue to try to shop quarterback Donovan McNabb, while the rest of us look on with the kind of horror reserved for watching a car accident happen in slow motion. Seriously, what are they thinking? This isn’t a case of offloading some washed-up former great. This is a great with some tread left on him. He’s a 33-year-old Pro Bowl quarterback who, oh, by the way, has never killed any dogs, been arrested at a strip club or served time for a gun violation.

Texas: An Eritrean man was convicted of taking a part of human trafficking victim. According to the report, he helped smuggling migrants from East Africa into Houston. He is facing up to 10 years in jail and $250,000 fine.
Maryland: A man was arrested for pimping on minors in Maryland and D.C. He allegedly forced them into prostitution after drugging them and threatening them with the firearms. If convicted, he could spend life in prison.
Iowa: Two of the three men who were arrested on drug abuse case are connected to sex trafficking case in Florida. They both were charged with human trafficking. One of them was also charged with sexual battery and forced prostitution. According to the report, the local strip clubs are the main income sources for their trafficking ring.

Clearly, something has to change. Nightclubs and events are a critical part of San Francisco’s economy. That’s why it’s important for industry players to have a say in how nightlife is regulated – and that’s why two of the seven spots on the entertainment commission are reserved for them.
But over the past couple of years, industry players have taken over the commission, and that’s not right, either. It has led to conflicts of interest on important votes, and it has kept the commission from acting decisively when it comes to shutting down troubled or dangerous nightspots. There were complaints against Suede dating back to 2007. Tenderloin strip-club Pink Diamonds, which was the scene of a homicide, various shootings and alleged prostitution, had to be shut down by the city attorney. What’s the point of the commission, again?
But the better European leagues offer players something the D-League can’t: money. Six-figure contracts are plentiful in Europe, and the D-League pays meal money by comparison. Players earn $13,000, $19,000 or $25,500. That’s it. A single 10-day contract in the NBA at a prorated portion of the rookie minimum of $450,000 eclipses what they make all season in the D-League.
So to play in the D-League, you’ve got to forget the money and believe in the dream. If you weren’t drafted, but you believe you’re as good as those guys in “The League,” this is where you come.

Even in springtime, Bakersfield looks sun-blasted. Concrete and corrugated metal dominate the landscape in Oildale, the rough-and-tumble part of town near the airport. Call him “the Architect” or “Bush’s Brain,” but former presidential advisor Karl Rove had plenty to say in Lafayette today — about the RNC’s latest scandal, and California’s electoral landscape this year.
First, Rove on the near-$2000 reimbursement to Orange County GOP operative Erik Brown to pay for a “Young Eagles” fundraiser at the now-infamous West Hollywood lesbian/bondage-themed strip club called “Voyeur.” He said he’s called for the RNC staffer responsible for that repayment to be fired; Allison Meyers, the “Young Eagles” director, was indeed — on Monday.
Former White House adviser Karl Rove, in a Bay Area appearance Tuesday, said the Republican National Committee’s reimbursement for a nearly $2,000 expense at a Hollywood strip club raises questions about the party’s management and whether the GOP has “procedures in place to spend money on elections – and not on jets and bondage clubs.”
Rove, who worked for President George W. Bush, made the comments to reporters after a sold-out address to the Contra Costa County Republican Club at the Veterans Memorial Building in Lafayette, where he was greeted with cheers by 400 fans who came clutching his new best-selling book, “Courage and Consequences.” He also was asked about this week’s scandal involving Orange County GOP operative Erik Brown, president of Dynamic Marketing Inc., who was reimbursed by the Republican National Committee for his tab at Voyeurs, a West Hollywood nightclub that specializes in S&M shows, topless dancing and dancers simulating lesbian sex. The victim initially lied to police about the incident after calling them from a friend’s house March 21, according to court documents. She allegedly told them that she had been assaulted by four men who dragged her from West Eighth Street near Dowdy Street into a nearby alley, where one of them sodomized her, according to court records. However, police interviewed people who lived in the area, who said they had never seen nor heard any disturbance take place in the alley.
When questioned further about the incident, and after she expressed reluctance about allowing police to view her cell phone, the victim confessed that the rape had taken place at Garrett’s house, court documents say.
The girl said Garrett identified himself as Marcus, but asked her to call him Q, court documents said. She indicated that at one point he said he and a friend wanted to start a business with a friend and needed “some girls” to make him money, court documents said. He had asked if she had any “nasty friends,” but she said she was not interested in his prostitution idea, according to court documents.
And it is with that credo, Deputy District Attorney Sharon Carney said, that Turner engaged in an illegal business of kidnapping teenage prostitutes off the streets of Oakland and taking them to Stockton, where he forced them to work as his prostitutes.

They said they were working as prostitutes when Turner drove up pretending to be a customer. After they got into the car, they said, he told them they were now his property and he drove them to Stockton.

Turner’s defense attorney, Spencer Strellis, admitted his client “might not be someone you want to take home for dinner” but urged the jury to look beyond his client’s appearance and focus on the facts of the case. Those facts, Strellis said, are based on the testimony of two “ladies” who admitted engaging in prostitution.
Brazil is relatively well developed country but it is responsible for 15 percent of women trafficked in South America. According to a research, the majority of victims are in the age between 12 and 18 with little or no schooling. The country is notorious for the world’s worst child prostitution problems as well as wide gap between the income distribution among rich and poor. Ironically, such supply of child prostitution comes from rural area, where the population has a little or no access to public service including education. Hence, they are often excluded from benefits of Brazil’s economic development.
