He’s talking about a 2006 story in the U.C. Berkeley Daily Californian about Chris, a former U.C. honor student and football star, who was accused of behaving very badly at a San Francisco strip club. No charges were filed, nor police report made and the younger Purtz denied the accusations.
But the Daily Cal interviewed club employees and a surveillance camera showed some scuffling. The incident got him suspended from the Bears football team.
…
Other sites took down the strip club story on request, including Gawker’s sports blog, Deadspin, which advertises itself as “sports news without access, fact or discretion.” Not entirely without discretion, it seems. Editor A.J. Daulerio said he was “comfortable” removing the Purtz piece “based on the circumstances and the fact that it would have no impact on us whatsoever.”
… A strip club whose marquee offered half-off admission to Macworld attendees. Okay, so that had a little something to do with Macworld. But not officially. And no, none of us took advantage of the offer.
You’re Welcome San Francisco: Brian Wilson Does Late Night Again
Updated 4:15 PM PST, Fri, Jan 28, 2011
Think Giants fever is isolated only to the Bay Area? Think again.
Giants reliever Brian Wilson made a trip to enemy territory to appear on “Lopez Tonight” to not talk World Series but instead to just show off his unique personality.
Wilson appeared in what looked like an homage to Popeye — orange pants, striped “Finding Nemo” socks, a pea coat with golden button, a sea hat, a pipe and a beard dyed gray.
The reliever’s conversation with host George Lopez was not for young Giants’ fans. Wilson talked about everything from visiting massage parlors in Thailand for “strictly sexual” reasons, to dressing like a “seman.”
“I wanted to closely relate to a seamanm” Wilson explained about his outfit before getting a reaction out of the crowd. “No not that kind of seaman. That would be an incredibly difficult costume to pull off.”

Human trafficking charges filed in Hayward prostitution bust
Pimping and pandering among charges 10 people face

HAYWARD — Ten people arrested last week on suspicion of running a three-county prostitution ring involving dozens of immigrant Asian women each have been charged with five felonies involving pimping and human trafficking.
One of those charged, Di Sun, attempted to slice her wrist with a thin razor blade before her court appearance Thursday, said Sgt. J.D. Nelson of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.
“I don’t believe it was a sincere suicide attempt, but more likely an attempt not to face her day in court,” Nelson said. He added that Sun was taken to St. Rose Hospital in Hayward to treat her “superficial” injuries and then to John George Psychiatric Pavilion in San Leandro for a psychiatric evaluation.

complaints of suspected prostitution in a house. An undercover investigation began, establishing that the house was a brothel and part of a larger ring of brothels.
… It’s clearly laid out in the budget that there’s future revenue provided for local governments, and it’s going to give local government more say in how the money is spent,” said the spokesman, Evan Westrup.
California’s redevelopment law lets city officials designate a zone as “blighted” and then earmark a portion of property taxes generated in that zone — money that would otherwise be divided among the state, county and cities — for redevelopment projects.
When Oakland moved those airport police officers onto the redevelopment payroll, it did so by classifying them as blight fighters and assigning them to redevelopment areas in East Oakland, Uptown, West Oakland and North Oakland. Along International Boulevard, the officers fight prostitution, drug dealers and counterfeiters. In West Oakland, they target violent crime. In North Oakland, they’ve been focusing on robberies.
By all accounts, Louis B. Dematteis was a man’s man. He served in World War II as part of the Greatest Generation. Later, he made his reputation as a crusading district attorney in San Mateo County, leading midnight raids on gambling houses and prostitution rings, and battling organized crime and corruption in the 1940s and ’50s.
So how could his son, Louis F. Dematteis, possibly measure up? As the younger Dematteis’ documentary, “Crimebuster: A Son’s Search for His Father,” shows, for a long time he didn’t – at least, in his father’s eyes. “Living with my dad was like living with a judge when court was in session,” Dematteis says.
Sitting at a cafe near his home in the Mission District recently, Dematteis (pronounced dim-a-TAY-us, and you can call him Lou) looks like a man comfortable in his own skin – as well he should be; he’s an accomplished photojournalist. Yet his first feature-length film, which premieres at this week’s California Independent …
Heading to San Francisco to MacWorld? Here are some things to do during your precious free time – between strippers, actors and coffee, we’ve got you covered.
1. Go to a Strip Club
Eleven of the city’s big name strip clubs in North Beach are offering free or discounted admission with your Macworld badge. They include the SF classic hotspots like the Hungry-i, the Condor and the Garden of Eden as well as Centerfolds and the Gold Club.
It begs the question: do they think Macworld is exclusively a man’s world, or that all Macs are horny and lonely? You decide.
Extra tip: if you’re into multitasking — and don’t mind the smell of strawberry body oil while you eat — the Hustler Club reportedly has an excellent happy hour buffet.

Drummond: Deep East Oakland rising

You won’t find many people venturing past 70th Avenue in Oakland toward San Leandro unless (1) they live there (2) they’re looking for prostitutes and/or drugs, or (3) they’re headed to the airport or an event at the Coliseum complex.
Online travel sites warn out-of-town visitors to “avoid the dangerous area between 70th and 100th Avenues.”
As one might imagine, that doesn’t do a lot for a community’s self-esteem.
The fact is, the immature, unconscious young people with guns who commit most of the appalling crimes represent a very small minority of the residents who live in Deep East. Many more people are vested in the community despite its challenges.
As a result of their dogged — often frustrating — efforts over the years, Deep East is undergoing a slow but steady transformation. This despite a struggling economy.
Charges were filed today against 10 Bay Area residents accused of participating in a large-scale prostitution and human-trafficking ring based in Hayward.
The 10 defendants are facing five felonies each, including pimping and human-trafficking, according to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.
The defendants, arrested last week in a raid of multiple towns, including Clayton and Newark, are: Nu Trinh, Ping Fen Wu, Mei Chien Wu, Larry Cordeiro, Li Hun Chiu, Wen Yan Gold, Jennifer Michelle Keahilihau, Di Sun, Curt Adam Mieczkowski and Kuanshun Cheng.
The charges are the culmination of a year-long investigation by the Hayward Police Department that uncovered a sophisticated ring of brothels that police say exploited scores of immigrant Asian women.
Investigators estimate dozens of women have been brought into the United States from Taiwan and China, placed in the prostitution circuit in this country and cycled through Bay Area brothels.

This time around the present dire Economy that will last another five years if not seven – the lack of any thirst for Real Estate, the world economy and other pertinent factors, in a FLUX – do not favor our Nation. The filthy rich are hurting for the first time and rightly so. Big Developers are jumping ship and many have declared bankruptcy.
No one is their right mind is going into construction.
Yet SF Redevelopment Agency was talking in flowing terms about the Mid-Market, plans in the South of Market Area, Mission Bay, Hunters Point and Candlestick Point – and all this and more has come to a standstill. These vermin have been shafted and rightly, so.
The curses of the thousands the SF Redevelopment Agency has hurt has come to roost – these bastards will never learn – there is only so much of pimping and whoring you can do – and get away with murder.
