Suspect in Calif. serial killings to stand trial By JASON DEAREN (January 23rd, 2012 @ 3:33pm)
SAN RAFAEL, Calif. (AP) – A judge ruled Monday that a man accused in the decades-old “Double Initial” serial killings case must stand trial for the murders of four Northern California women whose first and last names began with the same letter.
Joseph Naso, 78, was ordered to trial after a preliminary hearing before Marin County Superior Court Judge Andrew Sweet.
Naso is charged with the murders of Roxene Roggasch, Carmen Colon, Pamela Parsons and Tracy Tafoya, in the 1970s and 1990s. Police said all the victims were working prostitutes who had contact with Naso.
Prosecutors said they discovered DNA matching the profile of Naso on the stockings of Roggasch and under the fingernail of Colon.

San Francisco Adult Entertainment: Accused Serial Killer Ordered to Stand Trial

The charges make Naso eligible for the death penalty if he is convicted, but Marin County Deputy District Attorney Dori Ahana declined to comment on whether prosecutors would seek capital punishment.
Ahana called the judge’s decision to hold Naso for trial “appropriate.”
He will return to court to be arraigned on the charges on Feb. 3.
Sweet’s ruling came mid-morning at the conclusion of a preliminary hearing that began Jan. 10. The purpose of the hearing was to allow Sweet to determine whether there was enough evidence to try Naso for the murders.
Naso is charged with killing Roxene Roggasch, 18, of Oakland, in January 1977, and Carmen Colon, 22, in Contra Costa County in August 1978. He is also accused of murdering Pamela Parsons, 38, on Sept. 19, 1993, and Tracy Tafoya, 31, in August 1994. Parsons and Tafoya were both from Yuba County.
All of the women are believed to have worked as prostitutes.

Digital Playground Taps Ackrell for Manwin Deal
Wed, Jan 18 2012 02:00pm PST
SAN FRANCISCO — Manwin’s recent acquisition of one of adult’s top blue chip brands, Digital Playground, was a deal that involved high finance involving a little-known investment banking firm based in San Francisco.
Ackrell Capital — a boutique financial advisor that specializes in negotiation and business valuations for mainstream and adult, tech and media companies — represented Digital Playground exclusively in the blockbuster deal.
While Ackrell Capital is not the most familiar name in adult entertainment circles, one of the three partners of the firm is.
Ackrell partner and investment banker Ilan Bunimovitz, who structured the Manwin-Digital Playground deal, is the former Private Media Group CEO and newly christened Private board of director who challenged Private’s former management in a shareholder takeover and won.

San Francisco Adult Entertainment: Ex-wife of murder suspect Naso testifies against him

In a tense cross-examination of his ex-wife, Naso apparently tried to elicit admissions that she was interested in other men, stayed out late with friends and sometimes lost her pantyhose on her outings. She firmly denied it all.
“Do you remember making pies for a married man on Grand Avenue?” he asked.
She said no.
“I think you know who I’m talking about,” he said.
“I have no idea who you’re talking about.”
Later it emerged that the man was named Martin. Judith said she occasionally carpooled to work with Martin, but denied baking him pies.
Other testimony Thursday was provided by county pathologist Dr. Joseph Cohen, former coroner Dr. Ervin Jindrich and former Marin sheriff’s investigator John Lundquist, all of whom discussed various aspects of the death investigations. Also testifying was Benjamin Bennett, the former boyfriend and admitted pimp of Roggasch in Oakland.

San Francisco Strip Clubs: Penthouse Club and Steakhouse promises the finest dining in the city …

The chain will take over the former Showgirls (412 Broadway). Oh, but this not just a strip club, they say. It’s a combination club and restaurant, perhaps ready to fill the fleshy/trashy dining void left by Hooters.
The announcement promises “intimate dining booths” and a “refrigerated and illuminated ice rail built into the main bar to keep guests’ drinks cold.” On the food side, the executive chef (sidenote: there is an executive chef) is Juan Martinez, who will deliver a classic American steakhouse menu. There are promises of “some of the finest dining in the City — including mouthwatering steaks, seafood and pastas made form the highest quality ingredients.” That’s in addition to the nakedness. Due date is March. Brace thyself, San Francisco.
Related: To  date, the finest exposition on steakhouse/strip clubs still belongs to Frank Bruni, who reviewed a similar establishment in 2007: “But no matter what your appetite for the saucy spectacle accessorizing these steaks, you’ll be turned on by the quality of the plated meat … In the end, though, the steaks are the thing. The steaks and the conversation.”
