Woods supervised Martell for four years while she worked as a peer advocate for TransVision, which provides services for transgender people. Martell worked for the program from February 2007 until November, when program funding was cut and Martell was laid off, Woods said. Martell also helped organize five annual Alameda
County Transgender Day of Remembrance events in Oakland over the past several years.
Woods said the group of friends had been sitting in the car socializing because they are not welcome at bars and clubs that cater to gay or straight people and wanted to spend time together on Saturday night, which stretched into Sunday morning.
Woods said transgender women are involved in “active sex work” downtown, especially on Martin Luther King Jr. Way between 12th and 17th streets, but that the victim was not involved in prostitution.
Already, department emergency dispatchers have three overhead widescreen monitors constantly running footage from the cameras. They can pull up past and present footage for specific addresses in response to emergency calls. The latest round of camera installations complements six already installed cameras, reducing monitor lag time and giving increased camera mobility control to operators.
The volunteer monitoring station is still on the horizon, however, police Lt. Jim O’Connell said. First, a volunteer station space must be set up, volunteers must be trained on camera-viewing protocols and schedules must be established. Those same volunteers could also begin returning non-emergency calls to the public, and, later, even begin answering some of them, O’Connell said.
“It’s not going to be a panacea of immediate public safety … (but) it’s a start,” O’Connell said.
The camera project began a year ago, as the city and police responded to a public outcry over a visible flourishing of street prostitution, particularly along Sonoma Boulevard and adjoining neighborhoods. Funding for the early cameras came partially from the police department’s equipment budget and partly from community businessman Buck Kamphausen.

Someone said the coffee klatch has replaced the office cooler as a place to talk over happenings, to gossip, or chat, in part because many of us are retired, unemployed, or working at home.
One recent coffee topic has been sailing, something I know nothing about, but that sport has taken some serious hits lately. Very sad, indeed. One friend who has been a sailor most of his life, said the accident near the Farallon Islands was a result of taking risk at a high level. Some people are risk averse, while others like that stomach-churning, adrenaline-flowing feeling. How about you?
Someone else said that secret service agents are risk seekers. Their job, should someone start shooting at the president, is to go toward the shooter. I suppose most of them go through a whole career without having to follow through on that, but if you seek out that kind of a job, well, consorting with a prostitute may not be a big deal.

King: Secret Service studies prostitute interviews

WASHINGTON (AP) – The Secret Service is poring over interviews with 10 of 12 women involved in the Colombia prostitution scandal and so far there’s no indication that any posed a national security threat, a House committee chairman said Tuesday.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano told The Associated Press in New Zealand, where she was visiting, that the Secret Service has found no basis to allegations its agents hired strippers and prostitutes in El Salvador last year.
The Secret Service has issued only limited public statements since the April 12 incident in Cartagena, which implicated a dozen agents, officers and supervisors and 12 other U.S. military personnel in a night of heavy drinking in Cartagena before President Barack Obama’s visit to the Summit of the Americas. Some were accused of bringing prostitutes back to their hotel rooms.

Meira Perelstein plays the Goldsmith, Carina Salazar vamps it up as a Courtesan in a semi-Aretha strut with the chorus, Garret Wilson plays the stolid Officer, Stefin Collins the be-derby’d Duke and Don Hardwick the hapless Aegeon, a stranger slated for execution at the start, whose past provides the cue for the obligatory recognition scene to ravel up the plot.
Delancey Street started in 1971 with four people. Massage Parlor Employee Arrested on Suspicion of Prostitution

Shui “Cece” Chen, 45, of Hayward, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of prostitution.
Police searched a massage business in San Mateo this week, arrested one employee on suspicion of prostitution, and cited the owner for several misdemeanor violations related to the business, police said.
Police had received several reports that the Celandine Day Spa at 155 E. Fifth Ave. was offering prostitution in addition to its regular massage business, and police gathered evidence supporting those reports, police said.
On Wednesday afternoon, police served a search warrant there, which led to one arrest and the citations for the business’s owner, Daly City resident Michelle Yang, 41.
Shui “Cece” Chen, 45, of Hayward, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of prostitution and was booked into San Mateo County Jail.
