Judge Diana Becton Smith said a gag order prevents the Contra Costa County District Attorney and Public Defender’s Office — which is representing the boy — from discussing the case with the media.
Police said at least two students happened upon the attack. One student alerted an adult, while another physically interceded. Neither police nor school officials gave a reason for why the students weren’t in class at the time. The girl had previously complained to school officials that the boy sexually harassed her, according to police.
The West Contra Costa school district officials placed Portola Principal Denise Van Hook and Vice Principal Matthew Burnham on paid administrative for four days while they launched their still ongoing investigation into both the incident and campus security.
