Clean-and-sober homes are the latest curse to strike San Rafael. If there was any question whether San Rafael had once again become a dumping ground for this latest phenomenon, listen up. An initial Internet search on both licensed and unlicensed group homes shows an initial count of 22 programs within the city limits. As with so many social fix programs in San Rafael, Gerstle Park seems to have a majority of these homes. In other Marin towns and cities, there appear to be only around 10 homes where clean-and-sober programs are being operated.
Many would ask why San Rafael, and why there are 22, and only 10 for the rest of Marin. As with so many things, central San Rafael is a magnet for them. San Rafael attracts homeless people who come to St. Vincent’s for food and the Ritter Center for assistance and support. Other programs have homeless beds that they offer to those on the street. San Rafael is a magnet for massage studios and prostitution. And now we find out that San Rafael is the dumping ground for clean-and-sober homes, which have permeated our neighborhoods and put neighborhood integrity at risk.
