Director Stuart Maunder said the critical acclaim Thornton won for her performance in Melbourne last year was totally understandable.
Maunder said she ”ticks all those boxes” required to portray Desiree. ”She is moving, funny, beautiful, arch, vulnerable, sophisticated. She’s perfect,” he said. ”I have been in love with her since I saw her in The Man from Snowy River. And, judging by the response to her performance, I know there are thousands out there who feel the same way.”
Thornton has mastered many roles in her stellar, film, television and theatre career, from paddle steamer entrepreneur in All the Rivers Run to prostitute in The Blue Room to small-town magistrate in SeaChange. Most recently, in Underbelly: The Golden Mile, she played her first cop.
